Ms. Galene G. Martinez
Introduction
I am the Instrumental Music Director at Northridge Academy High School. NAHS is a partnership school between Los Angeles Unified School District and Cal. State Univ. Northridge. It is a position I have held since the school opened in 2004. I have been teaching with LAUSD since 1996, starting with Traveling Elementary Orchestra for 3 years, then moving to Robert Fulton Middle School in 1999 where I was for 5 years, until I moved to NAHS. I have a BA in Music from UC Berkeley, and a Single Subject Professional Clear Credential in Music with a CLAD certificate from CSU Northridge. I am currently getting a supplemental authorization in Computer Concepts & Applications and finishing my MA in Music Education at CSUN.
Educational Philosophy
No matter if a student chooses to become a musician as a lifetime career, or just a consumer of music during their lifetime, the basic fundamentals and foundations of music should be taught to and experienced by all students in school, as music is an integral part of human nature and development. My job is to further a young person’s knowledge, not only of music, but also of art, and education in order to help make the student into a more informed and productive person in our society.
